 Tunnel, stations and other underground projects cover many disciplines. COWI A/S covers the full range.

The planning and construction of tunnels requires the close cooperation of many employees. Teams of geotechnical engineers, hydrologists and tunnel engineers are working together on the alignment and the placement of stations, shafts and rock caverns.

Tunnel Boring Machine experts, tunnel segment designers, experts in immersed tunnelling techniques, ventilation and de-watering engineers are working interactively to develop cross sections - others are working on control, monitoring and emergency concepts. Finally, a number of specialists are advising on areas such as operations, risk, environmental issues and durability.

We follow the tunnel process from start to end. When the citizens of Copenhagen get their new Metro in October 2002, COWI will have been involved throughout the whole process as project manager and designers for 8 years. We have obtained a unique knowledge which is now being transferred to among others the Malmö City Tunnel project, which includes 8 km of bored tunnels and two underground stations.

The experience from our recent projects Malmö Citytunnel, the Copenhagen Metro and the Great Belt Tunnel makes us one of Northern Europe's leaders in the field of multidisciplinary underground projects. Lately, our expertise has been requested in connection with the world record bored tunnel Green Heart in Holland, the Muggio Cross Harbour immersed tunnel in Italy, the bored tunnel beneath the Halland Ridge in Sweden and the Rio Grande Channel Crossing; Brazil, the Chongming River Crossing, Shanghai both using immersed tunnelling technique.
